The woman detective emoji was introduced to add gender balance to the profession emojis in 2016. Like the original version of this emoji, she wears a fedora hat and a trench coat in either light brown or dark grey-black. Some platforms show her as a stereotypical sleuth, holding a magnifying glass, often up to her eye. Others – including Samsung and Twitter – show her more as a spy, and her identity is hidden from view by high, upturned collars on her coat, and occasionally dark sunglasses. The emoji is used to show that something is secret, or should be kept secret. It can also be used to mean that a secret or a piece of gossip has just been uncovered.
